CIMA GRAPPA MEMORIAL MONUMENT PASSES MILESTONE

January 29, 2018

The restoration project for the military monument sitting atop Monte Grappa in northern Italy has been presented for official approval. With the renovation timed for the centennial of the First World War, the memorial site for the fallen and the unknown narrates the experiences of war in a setting that disposes of great natural beauty and offers a place for tourism experiences and revalorization.

On the intense Italian landscape, the project redefines the connection between nature and culture, between scarcity and density, and between desolate and abundant spaces. The reuse of the old military facilities and the Caserma Milano barracks, integrating a multimedia museum for immersive learning and the potential of creating hotel facilities in an ex-NATO base, designate new forms of exploration in local history.
